"One
day in the summer of 1938 I am out on the rocks when I see a real manfish,
much further on in evolution than me. He never lifts his head to breathe,
and after a surface dive water spouts out of a tube he has in his mouth.
I am amazed to see rubber fins on his feet. I sit admiring his agility..
He tells me where to get goggles and fins and how to make a breathing pipe from a garden hose..we make a date for a hunting party....
This day is a big episode in
my undersea life."
